The Department of Anthropology at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure-track position in linguistic anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a scholar with a strong theoretical and methodological background in linguistic anthropology and an ethnographic approach to the study of language and culture. Preferred areas of focus include: minority/minoritized languages; bilingual and multilingual communities; language, race, and ethnicity; Indigenous languages; language shift, loss, and revitalization; and related fields. All theoretical approaches in linguistic anthropology are welcome, and geographic specialization is open; we encourage applicants who demonstrate willingness for substantive engagement with local communities. Applicants should be prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in linguistic anthropology, periodically teach Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, and mentor students in our M.A. and PhD program. The teaching load of this position is 2-2, with two pre-tenure course releases. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collegial 4-field anthropology department at the flagship research institution of the Nevada System of Higher Education.

Required Qualifications
A PhD in Anthropology/Linguistic Anthropology or a closely related field with an ethnographic approach to the study of language and culture. PhD must be in hand by July 1, 2021.
Evidence of an active research agenda through publications and/or grants and/or research plans and potential.
Demonstrated excellence, or clear evidence of potential for excellence, in teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
Specialization in minority/minoritized languages; bilingual and multilingual communities; language, race, and ethnicity; Indigenous languages; language shift, loss, and revitalization; or related fields.

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Nevada, Reno is a dynamic 4-field department with 12 full time faculty in Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, and Linguistic Anthropology.
