Project Archaeologist Principal Investigator - North Central Texas Halff Associates, Inc. Halff is seeking a Project Archaeologist Principal Investigator (PI) based out of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, to join our talented team of cultural resources professionals and manage projects in the north central Texas region. The qualified candidate must meet the Secretary of Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation and professional qualification requirements for Principal Investigator (13 Texas Administrative Code 26.4), have no prior Texas Antiquities Permits in default, hold a master's degree in Anthropology/Archaeology and have a minimum of 5 years of Cultural Resource Management (CRM) experience as a PI in Texas. The candidate should have demonstrated skills in CRM projects in Texas, including supervisory experience on archeological surveys, including those with backhoe trenching, experience performing National Register of Historic Places and/or State Antiquities Landmark eligibility evaluations of archeological sites, report writing and the management of projects from start to finish. The candidate will be expected to split time between conducting client/agency coordination, archeological surveys, technical writing and managing CRM projects as a PI with minimum supervision. Specific duties include consulting with project sponsors and state/federal regulatory agencies, conducting background research, obtaining Antiquities permits, writing scopes of work, conducting/managing field work, interpreting archeological data, authoring reports, and engaging with existing and potential clients to foster repeat and new business. The candidate needs to be detail oriented and have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, and must be technologically proficient including experience with databases. A working knowledge of using ArcGIS mapping software is preferred. In addition, stooping, bending, lifting, and walking in a variety of conditions and over unfamiliar terrain are essential functions of this position. It is also important for the candidate to have a desire to grow within the company and help expand the CRM practice in Texas and neighboring states. Qualifications
- Master's degree in Anthropology with focus in Archaeology;
- Minimum of five years of CRM experience as a PI in Texas;
- Thorough understanding of historic preservation laws and policies;
- Excellent verbal communication and writing skills;
- Demonstrable experience managing archeological surveys, including those with backhoe trenching, and testing projects;
- General knowledge of geoarchaeological soil profile description;
- Experience using ArcGIS mapping and GPS technology;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite;
- Capable of walking for long periods of time over unfamiliar terrain, excavating shovel tests and test units, screening soil, carrying field equipment, and leading field crews;
- Must be motivated and able to work safely with minimum supervision.
