About the Role:

Drew University is seeking one (1) or two (2) Adjunct Lecturers in the Anthropology Department to teach: ANTH 103/Human Evolution: Biological Anthropology & ANTH 312/Human Osteology and ANTH 312Lab Classes are in person in Spring 2025 to approximately 25 undergraduate students per section. Human Evolution: Introduction to Biological Anthropology meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:25am - 11:40am and Human Osteology and ANTH Lab meets on Tuesdays 1:15pm to 2:30pm and Thursdays from 1:15-3:35pm as the Lab period. Our semester runs for fourteen (14) weeks from 1/22/2025to 5/14/2025. Instructor compensation is $4,500 per course with an additional $2,250 for the lab.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach courses in Biological Anthropology focusing on Human Evolution and Human Osteology
  • Provide clear lectures on evolutionary theory, primatology, the hominid fossil record, origins of modern humans, their physical variation, and archaeological evidence for the evolution of human behavior.
  • Provides a study of human skeletal biology and bioarcheology. Students will have the opportunity to become familiar with the bones and anatomical landmarks of the human skeleton and how stress, disease, injury, and lifestyle affect them.
  • May include some instruction in paleopathology and forensic anthropology, with laboratory exercises providing direct examination of skeletal material
  • Grade assignments and exams
  • Hold office hours
  • Assign course grades that are a reflection of student ability
  • Be passionate about innovative teaching within a liberal arts context in small classes

Required Education and Experience:
  • Demonstrated success in teaching Biological Anthropology
  • Graduate level work in Anthropology required;
  • Ph.D. or Master's in Anthropology preferred
