Full-time Description This position would ideally be based in our Alexandria, MN office but may consider other office locations. Preferred candidates should be willing to work on-site to foster teamwork, expertise, and collaboration.

The Staff Archaeologist will be responsible for assisting with projects both in the office and in the field. This role requires strong technical skills, creativity, and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders. Your focus will be:

• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and right-of-way specialists for environmental and cultural resource concerns.

• Coordinate with federal and state agencies on current permitting requirements.

• Utilize a variety of field methodologies, including archaeological survey, testing, excavation, surface collection, and monitoring.

• Writing and preparation of archaeological proposals, Phase I/Class I reports, and providing technical professional opinions for project planning.

• Organize and plan Phase I/Class I field projects of various sizes, in multiple states.

Minimum qualifications include:

• Master's degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field.

• One-year supervisory experience in prehistoric or historical archaeology.

• Ability to acquire a Phase I/Class I reconnaissance survey license.

• Experience as a principal investigator performing and directing others in literature reviews, field surveys, curation/handling/processing of artifacts, scheduling, budgeting, and report preparation.

• Experience with federal or state permitting for environmental and/or cultural resources required.

• Experience utilizing the Section 106 process and state/federal regulations concerning cultural resource management.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Strong organizational skills.

• Valid driver's license.

Desired qualifications include:

• Ability to acquire a Phase II/Class II evaluation license.

• Experience conducting both prehistoric and historic archaeological surveys.

• Proven experience with ArcGIS online and data visualization.

• Experience with GPS is an asset.

• Ability to get on pre-qualification lists for local, state, and federal agencies.

This position requires the ability to work outdoors in remote locations and for extended periods under all weather conditions, often traversing rugged terrain, demonstrating awareness for workplace safety; and ability to work independently when conditions are appropriate or with limited supervision.
