Compensation: $24 - $30 per hour based on experience

JOB SUMMARY: Eocene Environmental is seeking Archaeological Field Technicians throughout the Southwest Region. As a Field Technician, you will work on various projects throughout the region and are not assigned to a specific state/location.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:
  • Serve as a Crew Member, Crew Chief, or Field Director for the project
  • Conduct Class III (intensive pedestrian) cultural resources inventory
  • Document archaeological sites and IOs/IFs.
  • Conduct probing or shovel testing.
  • Use hand-held field technology (i.e., ArcGIS phone/tablet application paired with sub-meter GPS receivers)
  • Survey an average of 50 acres/8 miles per day and carry personal health and safety equipment (i.e., personal water, sunscreen, etc.)
  • Work in moderate weather conditions (fluctuating temperatures and inclement weather, including rain and snow)
  • Perform work duties independently and efficiently, while working in a team setting.
  • Ability to follow instruction and to make adjustments when provided feedback.
  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright's and Eocene Environmental' s culture of safety and employee ownership.
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Has completed coursework leading to a degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field:
    • Crew Member - minimum 2 years of college-level coursework and completion of a field school.
    • Crew Chief - bachelor's degree, completion of a field school, and 1 year of professional experience.
    • Field Director - bachelor's degree, completion of a field school, 2 years of professional experience, and is permitted or qualified for agency permitting based on the SOI Professional Qualification Standards.
    • Principal Investigator - graduate degree, completion of a field school, 2 years professional experience as a Field Director, and is permitted or qualified for agency permitting based on the SOI Professional Qualification Standards.
  • Proficient in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology in the Southwest
  • Proficient in documenting archaeological sites and IOs/IFs in the Southwest
  • Organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy
  • Excellent navigational skills (GPS and compass) and ability to navigate and drive 4WD vehicles
  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Proficiency using tablets (Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy) to document cultural resources.
  • Proficiency with sub-meter GPS receiver.
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 applications (for phone or tablet).
  • Permitted or permittable on BLM lands in the Southwest (Field Director or Principal Investigator).
  • Previous NHPA, NEPA, FERC, and/or other cultural or environmental trainings.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to evaluate resources for NRHP-eligibility.
