EMH&T is currently seeking an Archaeological Field Technician to join Cultural Resources team located in Columbus, OH.

The field technician will join our team for Phase I archaeological surveys. You will work under the direction of a field supervisor/Principal Investigator to conduct fieldwork, including pedestrian surveys, shovel test pit excavations, site recording, and data collection.

Our Cultural Resource team works on a variety of projects that require compliance with federal, state and local regulations, and we are committed to excellence in our work.

Responsibilities:
  • Record archaeological data, including site forms, field notes, and GPS data collection.
  • May assist in the identification and preliminary analysis of cultural artifacts and features
  • work collaboratively with the field team and communicate effectively with the team and supervisor regarding the field conditions and findings.
  • Conduct Phase I fieldwork (both shovel testing and surface collection) as part of a team
  • Record data in the field and report results to the field director.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or a closely related field
  • Completed ‘field school' and prior fieldwork experience preferably in the Ohio Valley region.
  • Familiarity with both prehistoric and historic artifact identification is a necessity.

Physical Requirements:

The work may be physically demanding and work environment described here are representative of those that an employee in the above-listed position(s) will encounter and must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Use of electronic standard desktop and portable office equipment.
  • The ability to tolerate outdoor weather conditions and be exposed to outdoor insects, poisonous plants, and allergens for extended periods of time (8-10 hours per day throughout the year).
  • The ability to walk for extended periods of time and the ability to maneuver over rough terrain, ditches, steep banks and uneven ground.
  • Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs. of equipment/materials while walking across terrain.
  • Intermittent squatting, leaning, twisting and bending.
  • Use of hand equipment or tools.
