Overview
As a Senior Archaeologist, you will play a crucial role in leading and managing archaeological projects, conducting research, and contributing to the understanding of historical civilizations and cultures. This senior-level position requires a comprehensive understanding of archaeological methods, project management skills, and the ability to mentor and guide junior archaeologists. This role requires a combination of leadership, project management, and regulatory compliance skills to ensure the effective preservation and management of cultural resources in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

Overview
As a Senior Archaeologist, you will play a crucial role in leading and managing archaeological projects, conducting research, and contributing to the understanding of historical civilizations and cultures. This senior-level position requires a comprehensive understanding of archaeological methods, project management skills, and the ability to mentor and guide junior archaeologists. This role requires a combination of leadership, project management, and regulatory compliance skills to ensure the effective preservation and management of cultural resources in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Developing proposals and scopes of work including research design development and preservation planning.
- Organize and implement archaeological survey, testing, and data recovery projects in varying environments and weather conditions as well as scheduling staff and field logistics.
- Compose detailed notes of conditions, field procedures, and results.
- Utilize ArcGIS for planning, fieldwork, and report preparation stages.
- Identify historic and precontract artifacts from the Upper Plains and Midwest regions of the United States.
- Prepare, supervise, and review preparation of reports on investigations with assistance from staff.
- Lead small to large size field crews, and responsible for supervising and managing a small team (4-5 people).
- Work independently on projects as needed and demonstrated ability to exercise critical thinking.
- Work on multidisciplinary projects involving other markets.
- Able to cross sell all services.
- Research and publication of company supported projects.
Required Qualifications
- Possesses degree (Master's level or higher) in anthropology, archaeology, or related field required.
- Secretary of the Interior qualified in Archaeology.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in CRM with one year of project management.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office products, including Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Familiarity with Section 106 and National Register processes.
- Ability to use GPS units and ArcGIS.
- Demonstrated ability to carry projects to completion.
- Excellent teaching, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Supervise and manage 4-5 team members.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph. D or Master's degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in CRM with two years of project management experience.1 year of previous leadership experience, managing teams of people.
- Demonstrated research skills and field experience conducting archaeological investigations.
- Basic knowledge of Midwestern and Northern Plains prehistory, history, physiographic regions, cultural processes, and artifact typologies.
- An understanding of geomorphological principles.
- Basic analytical skills for site interpretation and evaluation, including developing research questions for National Register determinations.
- Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) certification.
Physical/Environmental Requirements
- Conduct archaeological surveys and testing in varying environments and weather conditions.
- Walk up to 10 miles a day over uneven terrain.
- Use of soil probes, hand augers, shovel, and screens for up to 20 subsurface tests a day.
- Ability to stand, kneel, and crouch while digging excavation units and shovel tests.
- Carry up to 50 lbs. for up to one mile.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Travel Requirements
- Moderate, 40-60%, 60-80%, travel will be required for projects that are in state and out of state and will typically be for 1-2 weeks at a time.
- For fully remote candidates, one week per month in-office commitment would be required.
