Summary
Partner Engineering & Science, Inc. is seeking to hire a full-time Staff Archaeologist in one of our physical office locations to assist with various types of cultural resource projects. As a Staff Archaeologist, you will participate in research, fieldwork, analysis, and preparation of technical reports and environmental documents. Duties will include conducting background research, survey, testing, evaluation, data recovery, construction monitoring, laboratory work, report preparation, and project task management.
Essential Duties and Tasks
• Conduct pre-fieldwork research and contribute to well-written reports of surveys and findings in compliance with state standards for Section 106.
• Perform tasks associated with report writing, including analysis, interpretation, and compiling of findings for submission to clients and regulatory agencies.
• Manage project tasks, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met efficiently.
• Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) for report writing, documentation, and project management tasks.
• Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and regulatory agencies to ensure project clarity and deliverable expectations.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, fieldwork, and reporting simultaneously.
• Assist with field investigations, surveys, and project studies for cultural resources, including archaeological test pits/excavations and artifact identification.
Preferred Experience
• Experience with the NEPA / Section 106 consultation process and due diligence consulting.
• Familiarity with various agency consultation processes, particularly with HUD, FCC, USDA, DOT, DOE, USACE, and FTA.
• Experience working on a national level, involving multi-state and cross-agency projects.
Qualifications
• Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field is required (must meet the Secretary of the Interior qualifications for archaeology).
• SOI Qualified Archaeologist required.
• At least 2 years of experience in CRM work or related field experience.
• Experience with Section 106 and NEPA compliance documentation and procedures.
• Experience identifying and recording prehistoric resources in Texas, including site documentation, shovel test pits (STPs), site descriptions, photographs, and mapping.
• Must be able to travel and perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage tasks independently and in collaboration with teams.
Minimum Qualifications
• Graduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field.
• 3-5+ years of full-time professional archaeological experience leading field crews, preparing archaeological reports, and client communications. Conducting artifact analysis is a plus.
• GIS capabilities for background research and report graphics.
• Strong team player with excellent interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and Federal and State laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to cultural resources.
• Experience collecting data with GPS technology.
• Familiarity with using Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook while working remotely.
• Strong technical writing skills and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and respond quickly while working in the field or office.
• Ability to manage time efficiently and work away from home for 1-4 weeks at a time.
• Ability to walk up to 10 miles a day and dig shovel tests to depths of up to one meter.
• Ability to work outdoors in potentially adverse weather conditions and with minimal supervision at times.
• Have a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to pass DoD security clearances and background checks.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
• Ability to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone.
• Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading printed materials and computer screens.
• Frequent bending, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, pushing, and pulling.
• Ability to climb a ladder.
