Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, a national multi-disciplined engineering and architecture consulting firm, is currently seeking a full-time Environmental Professional - Field Archaeologist or Archaeological Technician to join our growing team. This individual will work with a team of environmental professionals from across the company to perform archaeological and historic architectural surveys, draft reports and site forms, conduct environmental analyses, and deliver quality documents supporting our federal, state, local, and tribal clients under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and other applicable federal and state regulations for cultural and environmental resource management.

This position is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Wilson & Company provides flexible work options for employees, including hybrid in-office/work from home schedules. Wilson & Company intends to provide experience and training to progressively achieve Crew Chief status for the hired individual. Well-qualified candidates will be assisted in progressing to Principal Investigator status. This position will assist with archaeological fieldwork throughout Utah and the Intermountain West, including New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado, and will work with the Project Archaeologist. All Wilson & Company environmental staff work collaboratively with engineering professionals in a variety of disciplines across the firm to meet project goals, and with other key staff to build relationships both locally and in all states where Wilson & Company is conducting environmental project work.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical archaeological and cultural resources expertise
  • Conduct archaeological and cultural resources field surveys, includes travel throughout the Intermountain West and Southwest and potential out-of-state travel to support a national environmental program.
  • Conduct cultural resource inventories for a variety of our federal, state, local, and tribal clients
  • Assist in managing field generated data including site forms, GIS files, photos, and artifact analysis forms
  • Secondary author of inventory reports and will assist with the development of resource management recommendations
  • Complete field surveys, documenting archaeological and historic built environment resources, preparing technical reports, and writing resource sections of larger NEPA documents.
  • Collaborate on the preparation of technical reports and site forms.
  • Collaborate on the preparation of environmental and NEPA documentation.
  • Strong writing skills are required and experience with GIS is preferred
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with engineering professionals in a variety of disciplines across Wilson & Company to meet project goals, and with other key staff to build client relationships. in states where Wilson & Company is conducting environmental project work.


Required Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related discipline. Master's degree preferred.
  • Participation in an archaeological field school or 1.5 months of full-time archaeological survey and excavation.
  • Working knowledge of National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Section 106 regulations, and state cultural resource statutes.
  • Experience with GPS data collection technologies (Trimble or Juniper GNSS Receivers, ESRI Field Maps).
  • 1+ years of directly relevant field experience, survey and/or excavation in the Great Basin or adjacent areas is preferred.
  • Experience working on various jurisdictions, including Navajo Nation, BLM, USFS and State Land is preferred.
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible task management and report writing experience is preferred.
  • Permit to conduct survey under state and federal permits in Utah or ability to obtain (requires 6+ months of experience in relevant culture areas prior to employment) is preferred.


Salary: $50,000.000 - $81,000.00
