Southwest District Health (SWDH) is recruiting anExecutive-level Public Health Division Administrator to lead the dedicated group of professionals in the Environmental and Community Health Services (ECHS) Division.
As the ECHS Division Administrator, you will lead a dynamic team of professionals, establish the strategies and direction of your team to ensure their success, and enforce laws and regulations, working with state and local partners, and navigating the political landscape to protect the health of your community. As the leader of a diverse and self-motivated team, you will ensure exceptional delivery of essential public health services including:
- environmental health: lands (i.e., solid waste, subsurface sewage disposal, land development, and public drinking water) and facilities (i.e., food, pool, and childcare) inspections, licensing and permitting,
- community health: health promotion, education, community outreach, and engagement,
- communicable disease control, and
- public health emergency preparedness.
This position oversees all operations, administration, and fiscal management of the division.

Our generous benefits package elevates the total compensation for a full-time Division Administrator. Our offering transforms the hourly pay range from $48.48 - $57.04/hour to an estimated $65.90 - $76.36/hour, showcasing the value we invest in your well-being and professional growth.
Typical Duties:
Candidates must be able to complete the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation and meet all the mandatory qualifications of the position.
- Oversees the day-to-day operations and serves as a key advisor to the Director and county officials on environmental health and public health related issues.
- Lead a team of 30+ employees by hiring and developing staff to their optimal level of performance, providing clear direction, setting attainable expectations, offering support and expertise, and nurturing/cultivating cross-team collaboration.
- Develop strategic initiatives that advance SWDH's effectiveness in carrying out its mission.
- Contribute to strategy development, organizational effectiveness, and problem-solving within the District's Leadership Team.
- Interpret and apply local, state, and federal laws and regulations pertaining to public health authority.
- Interact and engage with local and state elected officials and policymakers on matters pertaining to public health.
- Exemplify SWDH's core values of accountability, customer-focus, and teamwork.
- Manage continuous improvement and support innovation efforts.
- Resolve complex inquiries and implement change management.
- Serve as a representative on internal and external committees, workgroups, boards, etc.
- Participate in the organization's budget development process and develop and monitor the division's budget.
Minimum Qualifications:
You must possess all the minimum qualifications listed below to qualify for this position. Minimum Qualifications (MQ):
- Considerable knowledge and practice of executive leadership in the public-sector (including military), business, or public health/healthcare, typically gained through either 10 years of progressively greater leadership experience combined with a closely related bachelor's or master's degree,or12 years of equivalent progressively greater leadership experience.
- Approximately (10 years) of related work experience in the following areas:
- Leadership (e.g., leading high performing teams, strategy development and execution, etc.)
- Supervision and management of multiple teams
- Developing a team
- Interpreting and applying laws and regulations
- Public speaking
- Conflict resolution
MQ Specialty:
- Valid Driver's License
- Approximately (5-10 years) of related work experience in the following areas:
- Budget monitoring
- Strategic development
- Managing professional staff and/or managers of professional staff
- Operations management including government, environmental, or public health/healthcare service delivery
Ideal Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business, public health, environmental science, natural resource management, industrial hygiene, civil engineering, anthropology, sociology, urban planning and design, or related field.
