The College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Arlington (a Carnegie Research-1 institution) is thrilled to announce four new tenure-track Assistant Professor positions aimed at advancing interdisciplinary research, teaching, and scholarship. These positions seek visionary faculty members committed to pioneering research and transformative teaching that engage with the evolving intersections of Liberal Arts with areas such as:

 

  • Artificial Intelligence in the Liberal Arts Environmental Studies Health and Society Video Game Studies

 

Each position is designed to deepen the College's interdisciplinary strengths, promote collaborative projects, and support impactful research that will benefit students and broader communities alike. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic academic community dedicated to cultivating critical thinking, creativity, and global understanding.

 

The appointments are set to begin on September 1, 2025, for the Fall 2025 semester.

Artificial Intelligence in the Liberal Arts

We seek an innovative scholar who operates at the intersection of the arts and humanities with artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. This individual will bring a visionary approach to exploring how AI and new technologies can enrich and transform our understanding of cultural, social, and artistic practices. Ideal candidates will investigate critical questions, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, and develop unique research and teaching methodologies that bridge the traditional and the technological, preparing students to engage thoughtfully with the evolving digital landscape.

Health and Society

We seek an innovative scholar whose research centers on health and society, examining the complex factors that shape health outcomes and experiences. Areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to, biomedical ethics, exploring ethical questions in medical practice and research; cultural conceptions of illness and health, investigating how different societies perceive and respond to health issues; disability studies, focusing on the experiences and rights of individuals with disabilities; global health and health justice, addressing inequalities in health access and outcomes worldwide; medical anthropology, studying health practices across cultures; and the social determinants of health, analyzing how socioeconomic factors impact health.

Video Game Studies

This interdisciplinary search seeks to strengthen the college’s research and teaching in video game studies and practice. The ideal candidate will contribute to and expand upon existing strengths in the digital liberal arts and video game studies, enhancing the college’s capacity to explore critical issues in game design, storytelling, cultural impact, and the broader digital landscape. This position represents an opportunity to shape innovative curricula and research that address the evolving role of video games within society and the arts.

Environmental Studies

We seek an innovative scholar or artist and accomplished educator whose work addresses the intersections of environment, sustainability, and migration. Areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to, climate-induced migration, examining how environmental shifts drive population movement; migration and environmental justice, exploring how migration relates to equitable resource access and ecological impact; rural-urban migration, studying how shifting populations affect urban development and sustainability; the impacts of borders on environments and ecosystems, analyzing how migration patterns and policies influence natural landscapes; and migration in relation to water scarcity or energy resources, investigating the vital role of resource availability in migration trends.
