Location: Remote (Applicants must be based in California)
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: $115k - $170k, DOE

About the Role:
We are seeking a dynamic and highly experienced Director of Cultural Resources to lead, manage, and grow our cultural resource management division. This is a remote position, but the ideal candidate must possess deep expertise in California laws and regulations governing cultural resources, including compliance with CEQA, NEPA, Section 106, and other relevant state and federal laws.
In this senior leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing all cultural resource projects from cradle to grave, ensuring regulatory compliance, fostering relationships with Tribal Nations, and managing a talented team of professionals. As the Director, you will have full accountability for the success of our cultural resources projects, including driving business development, generating revenue, and ensuring the highest standards of project execution.

Key Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership & Oversight: Manage and provide strategic direction for cultural resource projects across their lifecycle, ensuring projects meet regulatory, timeline, budgetary, and quality standards.
- Business Development: Drive the growth of our cultural resources division by identifying new opportunities, generating leads, and building relationships with new and existing clients. Lead proposal development and pitch meetings.
- Revenue & Profitability Management: Take ownership of the revenue generated from cultural resources projects, ensuring profitability and identifying ways to optimize project delivery and resource allocation.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with California state laws (CEQA, Section 106, and other relevant regulations), NEPA, and Tribal consultation processes. Keep up to date with regulatory changes.
- Stakeholder & Tribal Relations: Lead consultation efforts with Tribal Nations, state and federal agencies, local governments, and other stakeholders. Foster trust and ensure ethical, culturally sensitive practices are maintained.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Supervise, mentor, and guide a team of cultural resource specialists, archaeologists, and other professionals. Provide leadership and career development opportunities for junior staff.
- Reporting & Documentation: Oversee the preparation and review of technical reports, cultural resource assessments, mitigation strategies, and compliance documentation.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior management to shape the long-term strategy for the cultural resources division, aligning business goals with regulatory and market needs.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in cultural resource management, with in-depth knowledge of California laws and regulations and compliance processes.
- Proven experience in project management with a successful track record of overseeing complex cultural resource projects from start to finish.
- Strong business development experience, with demonstrated success in identifying new business opportunities, securing contracts, and managing client relationships.
- Deep understanding of CEQA, NEPA, Section 106, and related California-specific laws, including cultural resource assessment, docume ntation, and impact evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary teams, with excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience working with Tribal Nations and leading tribal consultation processes.
- A master's degree or higher in archaeology, anthropology, historic preservation, or a related field is preferred.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in GIS applications and spatial analysis for cultural resource management.
- Familiarity with archaeological field methods and mitigation strategies.
- Expertise in business development, preparing proposals for a variety of cultural resources projects.
