Job Details
The Effron Center for the Study of America at Princeton University works to fulfill Princeton's institutional vision - in the nation's service and the service of humanity - by offering curricula, supporting research and hosting discussion on the evolving experiences and identities of the peoples of the territories known as America. By exploring and relating issues raised separately by the humanities, arts, and social and natural sciences, and by engaging with a wide range of scholarly methods and theories, we aim to create a gener-ative space for new understandings of - and approaches to - issues that profoundly affect contemporary lives and will profoundly affect future generations.
The Anschutz Distinguished Fellowship, created through an endowment by the Anschutz family, will be awarded in the academic year 2025-26 to one or more distinguished writers, critics, journalists, musi-cians, artists, or other contributor to the arts, letters, public service, or commerce. Candidates need not be academic scholars. However, the selection committee will place great weight on indications of the candidate's teaching ability as well as the rigor, innovation, and interdisciplinary emphasis of the pro-posed seminar course.
The appointment period will be for either the Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 semester. The Anschutz Fellow(s) will teach one interdisciplinary, three credit-hour, undergraduate seminar course for the Program in American Studies with an enrollment cap of 15 students. In addition to teaching and holding weekly office hours to meet with enrolled students, the Fellow(s) will be expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the Effron Center for the Study of America, including participation in a wide range of events and activi-ties on campus. The work location is in person on campus, and we expect the Fellow(s) to be in residence in Princeton or in the local vicinity, or demonstrate to the Chair's satisfaction the ability to be on campus at least two to three days per week and on short notice, in order to fulfill all responsibilities. The Fellow(s) will also deliver one public lecture to the University. The Fellow(s) will enjoy full access to Princeton Uni-versity libraries, a computer-equipped shared campus office during the appointment period, and access to various University facilities. The Office of the Dean of the Faculty determines stipend and appointment rank on the basis of experience and accomplishments; appointment rank at Princeton is determined on the basis of seniority and current institutional affiliation.
This position may be subject to the University's background check policy.
