Jacobs Ecosystems, Restoration, Science and Permitting group seeks a mid-level Archaeologist with experience in the US Pacific Northwest to be working primarily in our Boise, Idaho office, with the understanding that telecommuting and archaeological fieldwork would comprise most work hours. This position involves providing cultural resources support for planning, engineering, and construction services to government and private clients.
In this role, your duties will include archaeological survey, testing, evaluation, data recovery, and construction monitoring, as well as other tasks as assigned. Using your experience, you'll serve as a senior crew chief or archaeological field director on field projects and a primary/co-author on reports. You'll complete analysis of archaeological materials, keep detailed field notes and archaeological site records, and conduct research. You'll work outdoors in remote locations and for extended periods under all weather conditions, often traversing rugged terrain. You'll have the opportunity to work on projects and with clients in both the public and private sectors, often working on multiple projects at a time. Your ability to write clearly and professionally is very important. Familiarity with the use of GPS units (Trimble) and tablets (Collector) will be essential. Your keen awareness for workplace safety in remote and urban conditions and within active transportation corridors is expected, as is a willingness to work independently or with limited supervision when conditions are appropriate.
Bachelors in Anthropology or Archaeology with a graduate degree in a relatable field; or a Masters in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a relatable field.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field.
Previous experience as a crew chief or field director.
Meet Secretary of the Interior's Professional Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology (36 CFR 61).
Demonstrated skills in cultural resources management, including supervisory experience on survey and excavation projects.
Knowledge of federal historic preservation laws and policies, including NEPA, NHPA, ARPA, and NAGPRA, as well as Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and other regional state laws and policies.
Knowledge of computers and GPS equipment, including MS Office Suite.
Ability/willingness to travel to distant or remote sites, for extended periods as necessary.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Organizational and time management skills to effectively complete assigned workload within defined timelines and in accordance with established standards
Ideally, you'll also have:
- Experience in Idaho, Oregon, or Washington.
- At least 8 years of field experience in archaeological survey and excavation.
- Additional experience in historical archaeology, lithic analysis, faunal analysis, ethnography, GIS, and/or osteology.
- Registered Professional Archaeologist (in good standing).
- Experience working in the consulting environment.
- Demonstrated experience with transportation projects.
