Part Time - Museum Education Recreation Assistant I
At the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum (CSPM), where we commemorate and preserve the cultural richness of the Pikes Peak region, you'll energize our youth, family, and adult programs, making a lasting impact on our community's connection to its history.
The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum (CSPM) preserves and shares our cultural history through innovative exhibits, educational outreach and programming, and preservation of its collections. Founded as a collecting institution in 1896, today the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum builds a lasting connection to the Pikes Peak region by preserving and sharing our cultural history.
This is a .75 position with benefits averaging 30 hours per week. Additional hours may be scheduled as needs arise. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function in the performance of this job.

One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.

Essential Functions:
- Develop and lead instructional programs by assisting with research, planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of age and ability-appropriate programs to include:
- Family Fun Days
- Yearly Festivals
- K-12 School Programs
- Little Learners Preschool Program
- Teen Junior Docent Program
- Guide museum tours and walking tours
- Provide training support for museum volunteers
- Organize supplies; maintain program spaces
- Knowledge of the cultural history of the Pikes Peak region
- Ability to plan and lead programs for a variety of audiences
- Knowledge of child developmental stages and positive behavior management skills
- Ability to take a leadership role in training and educational activities
- Ability to prioritize, think, and work independently; problem solve; and complete tasks in a timely manner
Successful candidates will have
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field
- Possess or obtain within three months of hire a CPR certification and First Aid Certification
- Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.
Ideal candidates will also have
- Have completed at least one semester of college level coursework in education, history, anthropology, or a related field
- Have at least one year of volunteer or professional experience in a related field
- Experience leading interpretive activities in a museum setting
- Experience developing and leading early childhood programs
