Position Description
The Anthropology Department at Colby College is a small, dynamic department focused on cultural anthropology. We invite applications for a tenure track position for a cultural anthropologist in the field of gender and sexuality beginning on July 1, 2025.

We seek a tenure-track colleague who will build on established strengths in the department while extending these in new directions. Specifically, we seek a colleague broadly trained in cultural anthropology with a core specialization in the field of gender and sexuality and some combination of a range of possible secondary specializations: land, climate and environment; energy and energetics; engineering, design, and STS; religion and ethics; food and tourism. We seek a geographic specialization in one of the multiple areas that are not covered by current staffing: Asia; Oceania and Pacific Islands; Indigenous and Aboriginal studies; or Middle East and Islamic World.

The successful candidate will teach 4.5 courses a year (generally alternating 4 and 5 courses a year), including Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, with additional courses to be decided in conjunction with departmental needs. Depending on their particular areas of interest and specialization, this new colleague could contribute significantly to important programs and initiatives on campus, including Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Global Studies, East Asian Studies, Environmental Studies, the environmental humanities, Colby’s premed or prelaw training, American Studies, African American Studies, Science, Technology and Society, and the new engineering initiative.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence, with preference given to those with experience teaching in a Liberal Arts setting. Ph.D. (preferred) or advanced ABD.

Application Instructions
Please submit applications through Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/154603. Include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references. Applicants must also provide statements of teaching philosophy and research interests that demonstrate a commitment to equitable and inclusive teaching. Please provide a representative sample of your scholarship.

Applications received by October 25 will be reviewed in full. The committee will request letters of reference from finalists for the position. Initial interviews will be conducted online. For further information, contact search committee chair Britt Halvorson, bhalvors@colby.edu.
