The Department of Anthropology at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in cultural anthropology. We seek a scholar whose research and teaching expertise focus on race and processes of racialization as these impact health and holistic well-being among marginalized communities in the Americas. Successful applicants will possess a record of theoretically attuned ethnographic research, energetic future research plans, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and commitment to public and community-based scholarship. In addition to expertise in race and racialization, areas of expertise might include medical anthropology or public health, with focus on topics like structural marginalization, intergenerational and socioeconomic impacts of racism, inclusion and belonging, the politics of health and well-being, Indigeneity, health inequity, environmental justice, migration and global diasporas, kinship and reproduction, gender and sexuality, language and discourse, and education.

This position is part of a health and inequalities cluster initiative in the social sciences, with companion hires in Economics and Sociology. A PhD in anthropology or a closely related field is required by time of appointment. This is a university-year appointment with an expected start date of August 2025.

The applicant will be expected to have an active research program in the field and to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in cultural anthropology. The regular teaching commitment for department faculty is three courses per academic year. Ph.D. in anthropology required by the time of appointment. Needed: Expertise in cultural anthropology of race and racialization, well-being, and the Americas.

We expect the successful candidate will:

- Teach three courses per year including introductory and upper-division undergraduate courses and graduate courses in cultural anthropology.

- Maintain a high-quality research record as documented by publications and the ability to secure external funding. CU Boulder is committed to supporting new and current faculty with the process of seeking external funding, including through resources offered by the Research and Innovation Office (workshops on grant writing, internal funding opportunities, support for external funding applications).

- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

- Fulfill departmental service obligations.

We offer a competitive salary and start up package. Salary of $88,000 - $92,000. We also offer a moving allowance.
