Senior Archaeologist/Crew Chief - Great Basin Region Far Western Anthropological Research Group, Inc.  Founded in 1979, Far Western Anthropological Research Group is one of the most respected cultural resource resources compliance process with high-quality archaeological research, creative and innovative problem-solving, and open communication with native peoples, regulatory agencies, and the interested public. We believe this highlights the core purpose of historic preservation laws to work in the public interest.    We are looking to immediately hire a Crew Chief-level Senior Archaeologist to work on existing contracts in the Great Basin region. An interested applicant would look forward to working directly with Far Western Principal Investigators and Project Managers to complete projects and gain training and mentorship with opportunities for independent research. Required Qualifications:
  • Motivated to work and commit to consecutive field mobilizations in 2024 on multiple projects throughout the region.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience (i.e., crew chief, field director) in the Great Basin.
  • Ability to be permitted in Nevada and/or California on BLM Cultural Resources Use Permits (CRUPs).
  • Demonstrable CRM field experience (e.g., survey, pre-contact and historic-era site documentation/data collection, excavation, evaluation, and familiarity with common data collecting devices and hand-held tools).
  • Demonstrated academic experience may be a substitute for CRM field experience.
  • Ability to hike eight to ten miles a day for consecutive days in variable terrain and variable weather. 
  • Clean driving record.
  • Detail-oriented, ability to adapt to varying data collection needs, attention to field methods/pace, and effectiveness in verbal and written communication. 
  • Interest in and ability to interact with Native American representatives, clients, and co-workers positively and collaboratively. 
  • Ability to work both collaboratively independently within Far Western's Safety Program and project-specific protocols. 
  • Holds a B.A./B.S. in Anthropology/Archaeology or related field.
Value-added Skills:
  • Experience with pre-field and post-field tasks, logistics, and results processing inclusive of reporting, as appropriate to the applicant's skill level.
  • M.S. or M.A.-level education and meets the Secretary of the Interior's (SOI) Professional Qualification Standards (PQS) in Archaeology.
  • Have been previously permitted in Nevada or demonstrable crew leadership experience in surrounding Great Basin regions.
  • Have experience working collaboratively with Native American monitors and tribal cultural resource specialists in the field.
  • Have knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations relevant to cultural resources.
  • Have demonstrable technical report writing skills and the ability to provide examples.
  • Actively participate in regional archaeological or historic preservation research.
