Salary: $23-$26/hour depending on experience

Full-time Field Archaeologist, Temporary

Summary: DAWSON is seeking Field Archaeologists for the conservation and planning team. Our staff participates in a variety of projects across DAWSON�s services throughout the country. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Cultural Resources Team. The position would require occasional overnight travel for up to a week at a time, possibly more. Candidates from all parts of the country are encouraged to apply but based in Arizona or California is preferred. The first project will be 10-day session in western Arizona. Federal Per Diem Rates apply.

Responsibilities:

Perform a wide range of archaeological fieldwork: survey, testing, data recovery, literature reviews and research.
  • Assist with permit coordination, literature reviews, and research.
  • Complete fieldwork tasks, some writing will be required.
  • Support preparation of proposals in accordance with the proposal schedule and budget.

Requirements:
  • B.A. or B.S. degree in Anthropology/Archaeology or History, or related field
  • 6 months+ of experience in Cultural Resources fieldwork
  • Familiarity with Section 106 processes and NRHP eligibility criteria for sites
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Able to pass a federal and state background check for project-based assignments.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience with cultural resources (and cultural resources management), including ability to complete field tasks.
  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written.
  • Organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work.
