WSP is currently initiating a search for Part Time Archaeology Field Technicians for our California offices! Be involved in projects with our Environment and Infrastructure/Earth & Environment Teams and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

WSP is currently looking to fill multiple hourly, project-based positions. This junior archaeologist (heritage resource specialist) position will work with senior project managers, senior archaeologists, architectural historians, and other environmental staff to expand existing and new client relationships and contribute to WSP's capacity and reputation in the environmental and engineering marketplace. Compensation will be commensurate with credentials and experience.

Successful candidates will work with environmental and heritage/cultural resources specialists throughout the West. Current and upcoming archaeological project contributions are needed in Arizona, California, Nevada, and New Mexico. The successful candidate should expect upcoming or future fieldwork opportunities in adjacent states as well. These positions are expected to take active roles in conducting fieldwork and supporting the collection and preparation of digital data for reporting of findings. The successful candidate will have experience with various digital data collection software and hardware and expected to contribute to the completion of state appropriate site forms. Experience in the western US is preferred but not required.

Your Impact

• Performing background research including record searches, literature reviews, and historical documentation syntheses at a variety of agencies across the region.
• Providing support to Native American and NAHC consultations.
• Participation in Class I-Class III assessments, and data recovery excavations.
• Independent and team construction cultural resource monitoring.
• Participating in and/or contributing to heritage/cultural resource investigations in support of our clients' projects. These efforts require compliance with CEQA, NEPA, NHPA and other federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• 3 years experience in performing cultural resources services in a field, office, or laboratory setting.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of cultural resources and environmental regulations.
• Working knowledge of North American archaeology.
• Experience with SharePoint and Microsoft.
• Experience with NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, and relevant state laws.
• Ability to perform pedestrian survey and cultural resource monitoring.
• Ability to perform shovel-testing and data recovery excavations.
• Experience identifying and analyzing a wide variety of archaeological materials from prehistoric and historic-period archaeological sites in the field.
• Must be able to pass a Fit for Duty Exam
• Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
• This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
• Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or related field.
• Previous work experience in the western US
• Large scale linear and/or utility and infrastructure project experience is a plus.
• Previous excavation experience is a plus.
