Anthropology Adjunct

Salary: $5,000 - $6,000 per 5 credit hours

Classification: Adjunct Faculty

Reports to: Dean of Social Sciences & Humanities

Individuals will be contacted as vacancies occur.*Olympic College is continuously recruiting adjunct faculty to teach courses in Anthropology. The college seeks candidates who can help close achievement gaps and meet the Mission goals of serving its diverse student population. Olympic College has joined Achieving the Dream (ATD), a comprehensive reform movement of more than 220 community colleges, each committed to helping students achieve their college and career goals. These colleges have a laser focus on equity, closing achievement gaps, and increasing graduation rates with an emphasis on low-income students, first-generation students, and students of color, groups that have been traditionally underserved at all colleges.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and teach anthropology courses.
  • Provide quality teaching including related preparation and grading.
  • Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes and to the division office as requested.
  • Maintain accurate records of students and complete forms as required.
  • May include evening instruction and/or instruction at satellite campuses.
  • May be asked to teach hybrid classes and online courses.
  • Will be expected to teach a range of Anthropology courses.
  • Punctual communication with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Anthropology from an accredited college or university.
  • Basic Computer Competency MS Office preferred.

Desired Qualifications
  • College teaching experience.
  • Advanced computer competency and experience with LMS systems.

  • Provide two professional letters of recommendation upon request and sample syllabi if requested.
  • Uphold Olympic College's values and ethics necessary to maintain a positive climate.

Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of their employment.

This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. The salary listed is a range based on per quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments including travel to clinical sites may be a part of the instructional load.
Adjunct positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for a period of 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur. Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon their initial hire. Adjunct faculty must work 50 percent of a full-time load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible. Additional hours earned at other SBCTC colleges may count towards this requirement. Adjunct are not initially eligible for benefits upon hire but could qualify for the following.

Conditions of Employment
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.
