Role description:
Arcadis is seeking an Archaeologist to support environmental planning projects (e.g. linear infrastructure projects) within California. In this role, you will conduct archaeological field work for multiple projects and at all levels of investigation, from site identification to data recovery, and archaeological monitoring. You will work on projects that require shovel testing, pedestrian surveys, and site documentation. In this role, you will also be responsible for preparing technical reports and documents.
This position will require a candidate to work collaboratively with a diverse team across the U.S. Arcadis offers a flexible working environment and follows a hybrid work structure. A successful candidate can expect to work remotely and from the office, as needed, based on demands of project and client teams. The ability to travel to various project sites, including overnight travel, will be required (field work expectations are approximately 50%)

Role accountabilities:
As an Archaeologist, you will apply your technical knowledge to support archaeological services on linear utility projects. You will be a key cultural resources team member and work as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team. You will be responsible for conducting archaeological fieldwork, including archaeological monitoring, and preparing technical documents.
You will lead cultural resources surveys and be responsible for managing archaeological field staff and field crews, as appropriate. This will require a working knowledge of GPS systems and the ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, as well as carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. This will also require working in the field under a range of conditions (e.g., rugged and unfamiliar terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures). Additionally, you will use your excellent technical writing and communications skills to author technical documents and provide survey details and results to project teams.

- Master's degree in archaeology or a Bachelor's Degree in anthropology/archaeology and currently enrolled in a graduate program.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in cultural resources management.
- Demonstrated experience supervising archaeological field crews.
- Demonstrated practical field experience in California
- Working knowledge of GPS systems and the collection of field data.
- Basic knowledge of cultural resources management and Section 106.
