The Department of Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame seeks a biological anthropologist to join our collegial, dynamic, and integrative four-field department. This tenure-track Assistant Professor position will begin in August 2025. We seek a scholar-teacher whose research complements or extends our existing departmental faculty expertise, investigating connections between social and environmental contexts, biology, and health in contemporary or past populations of humans or non-human primates.

Our department possesses an active program of undergraduate research and attracts top graduate students. The candidate should demonstrate strong lab/field and quantitative skills and must be an excellent teacher. They should be enthusiastic about mentoring our highly qualified graduate and undergraduate students towards academic and non-academic career goals. For graduate students, their training should position them for post-doctoral and faculty positions and with skills for professional opportunities in the government, NGO, and private sectors.

The geographical, theoretical, and research specialty areas are open, including a focus on humans or non-human primates. The successful candidate will demonstrate a robust record of studying topics such as social hierarchy and inequality, poverty, race, environment and health, infectious/zoonotic diseases, or comparative approaches to social behavior. The Department of Anthropology seeks creative collaboration across disciplinary lines, engaged scholarship, collegial relations, and the ability to incorporate students into active learning, research, and fieldwork. Those candidates who can involve undergraduates in research will be particularly appealing. Ph.D. must be in hand by August 2025, but is strongly encouraged at the time of application.
