Responsibilities

The Department of Anthropology at Florida State University is seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Business Manager to provide comprehensive support and management for our department's business operations. This role involves interpreting and implementing college and university policies, overseeing budget activities, ensuring compliance with financial and administrative procedures, and managing human resources functions.

In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • The day-to-day management and supervision of the department office and ensuring front desk coverage; supervising department Staff, OPS, and work-study employees.
  • Providing administrative support and management for department business operations.
  • Reviewing budget activities, identifying departmental financial needs by reconciling and reporting financial status information to the Chair.
  • Serving as the HR Supervisor for Anthropology. Approving personnel actions including appointments, reappointments, mass graduate appointments and terminations.
  • Overseeing purchasing/receiving and travel for the department, approving financial actions, and managing the department FSU Foundation accounts.
  • Providing administrative support to the Chair for faculty recruiting and hiring, preparation of annual evaluations, and trains new faculty on office equipment and FSU policies.
  • Serving as Property Manager and overseeing building key and card access, acting as a liaison to facilities, telecommunications, and property records department.
  • Assisting the department Chair in the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures, in addition to College and University policies

The Business Manager plays a crucial role in the success of the Anthropology Department. By serving in this position, you will contribute directly to the success of the academic teaching and research efforts at Florida State University!

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience in administrative management and supervision.
  • Proven ability to perform accurately in environments requiring high attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn new computer programs.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication, including handling correspondence via phone, email, and in person.
  • Knowledge of human resources practices and procedures.
  • Can manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices effectively.

Anticipated Salary Range

The anticipated starting salary for this position is in the mid $50,000's, commensurate with experience and education.
