This position performs a range of professional archaeologist assignments including reviewing low to moderately complex Local Agency Program (LAP) transportation projects to ensure consistency with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) directives, and the programmatic agreement established between the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), FHWA, Michigan State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP). Conducts archaeological field work, laboratory work, and reporting as part of the MDOT's overall cultural resource management program in support of categorical exclusion and major action transportation projects. Provides support for Environmental Services Section LAP staff as needed.

The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (9) level through the maximum rate at the experienced (P11) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in archaeology or a field of anthropology.

NOTE: We may consider applicants that will be obtaining a bachelor's degree by August 31, 2024.

Experience

Archaeologist 9

No specific type or amount is required.

Archaeologist 10

One year of professional experience conducting archaeological research activities equivalent to an Archaeologist 9.

Archaeologist P11

Two years of professional experience conducting archaeological research activities equivalent to an Archaeologist, including one year equivalent to an Archaeologist 10.

Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
