Step into Your New Role

Kleinfelder is seeking a Staff Archaeologist to support with public and private sector projects, in Central and Northern California. The individual will assist on field survey, site recordation, monitoring, and preparing technical reports. Specifically, seeking individuals located in and around the Sacramento or Fresno, California regions. The individual(s) will largely work remote and in the field but will report to an office as needed, and direct supervisor in Sacramento, California. This position is a FLEX opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Fieldwork including but not limited to; survey, testing, excavation, monitoring, site recordation, and report preparation
  • Work directly with other archaeologist, Native American monitors, biologist, environmental planners and project managers.
  • Preparation of technical reports.
  • Provide enthusiasm and commitment to client service and technical excellence.
  • Successful candidates will be familiar with working within a fast-paced consulting environment and help to develop effective solutions to both expected and unexpected project challenges.


Requirements and Qualifications
  • BA/BS or higher in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field; or equivalent experience. Graduate Degree Preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in archaeological field and/or laboratory work in California.
  • Candidates must be able and willing to travel and work outdoors in remote locations and for extended periods under all weather conditions, sometimes traversing rugged terrain.
  • The ability to independently identify prehistoric and historic-era cultural resources
  • Strong writing skills and clarity in notetaking while working in the field.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and respond quickly while working in the field or office.
  • Working knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the California Environmental Quality Act
  • Previous experience coordinating with Native American Tribes and land agencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and management skills
  • The ability to work closely with clients, engineers and other technical specialists as part of a larger combined project team.
  • Familiarity with digital field technology (GPS, total station, etc.) and GIS applications and software.
  • Familiar with preparing Department of Parks and Recreation Forms (DPR 523- series) required

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Transparency Law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Hourly range: $34.44 - 57.40.
