AECOM is seeking an Archaeologist II/GIS Specialist to join our Phoenix, AZ Cultural Services team. The Archaeologist/GIS Specialist will support all types of cultural resource studies primarily in Arizona and surrounding states. The studies could include records reviews, intensive cultural resource field surveys, archaeological excavations and monitoring, and lab studies.

The Archaeologist/GIS Specialist, working under the supervision of the cultural resource team leader, will:
  • Coordinate collection and management of digital field data and preparing maps and figures to facilitate successful completion of reports.
  • Contribute to cultural resource reports and associated documentation in coordination with other team members.
  • If required by the cultural resource team workload, conduct archaeological fieldwork and compile field documentation.
  • Work with technical field, lab and office staff, managers and administrative staff to ensure projects meet AECOM quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • BA degree in anthropology or related field.
  • 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in cultural resource management including working with GIS.
  • Valid U.S Driver's license is required for this role as travel will be required on an as needed basis.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
  • MA degree in anthropology or related field.
  • Archaeological field school.
  • Regional archaeological expertise in the Southwestern United States.
  • Understanding of the cultural resource laws and regulations.
  • Register of Professional Archaeologists certification.
  • Ability to supervise archaeological fieldwork and manage logistical arrangements for fieldwork.
  • Contribute to lab processing and technical analysis.
  • Contribute to preparation of proposals.
  • Experience collaborating with tribal communities.
  • GIS competency in support of cultural resource studies.
  • Strong skills in writing and reviewing technical reports and research designs/treatment plans.
  • Experience with standard Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel) and Esri GIS software.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $50,000.00 - $63,000.00.
