JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Department of Anthropology at Penn State is seeking an Assistant Research Professor with exceptional research potential to join the RISK lab, led by Sagan Friant (saganfriant.com).
The Assistant Research Professor will conduct interdisciplinary research on human-environment interactions and human health. Specifically, they will help lead the collection and analysis of ethnographic, ecological, and epidemiological data on human-environment interactions and risk factors for zoonotic disease, focusing on Lassa fever.
This position will be based at Penn State's University Park campus, but the Assistant Research Professor will be expected to travel to and contribute to field research in rural Nigeria for extended periods of time, where they will work collaboratively with local communities, local government agencies, and interdisciplinary One Health teams to collect data and communicate findings.
This is a non-tenure-track, term appointment for one year from date of hire, with an excellent possibility of re-funding.
Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in anthropology, ecology, or related field by the time of appointment, with demonstrated success in writing high-quality reports and publications. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse research environment, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
