Parametrix is seeking to connect with experienced Cultural Resource Specialists (Field Technicians) to support upcoming projects and workload. We are looking for candidates local to New Mexico, Arizona, and southern Utah or southern Colorado. These positions will be on an on-call basis with duration and schedule of assignments dependent on individual project needs.

Field Crew Member position duties will include:
  • Hiking (often in difficult terrain with challenging vegetation and obstacles) and/or excavation (often in hot and dry conditions with steady winds and blowing dust)
  • Participation in archaeological survey and/or excavation including use of total station and GPS equipment, excavation of test units, and monitoring of backhoe excavations.
  • Artifact and feature identification and documentation
  • Completion of field forms primarily using computer tablets or smart phones and application of standardized field methodologies to complete tasks

The successful candidates should have:
  • Bachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field. Preferred candidates will have at least 1-year of experience/expertise in archaeological survey, monitoring, and/or excavation.
  • Proficient skill in technical writing with an emphasis on concise, clear descriptive language using appropriate punctuation and relevant archaeological nomenclature.
  • Excellent communication with coworkers, especially regarding any uncertainty of job duties, personal safety and comfort, and fatigue that could impact job performance.
  • Experience with Juniper Geode GPS Units and ESRI Field Maps for archaeological site documentation and mapping a plus.
  • The ability to hike in the range of 10+ miles a day and carry loads of 40+ lbs over difficult terrain. These are physically rigorous positions.

Travel will be required to work sites. Housing, meals, and travel costs are determined in advance for each project assignment. However, we typically provide GSA per diem rates for Meals & Incidentals and single occupancy lodging will be provided or the equivalent GSA Lodging rate offered. Camping will be required for certain projects and successful candidates will already possess sufficient equipment for car-camping on public lands.

Hourly rate for this position:

$25.00 - $27.00

Hourly rate will be determined based on education, experience, location, and role. For all positions we conduct an equity review. We are transparent in our salary discussions and look forward to sharing more about our compensation structure.

Opportunities for additional work for crew members/crew chiefs following the field season are possible, including processing of artifacts and reporting tasks.
