Internship- Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum

The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum seeks a highly motivated student for an 8-week internship working with our Curatorial, Collections, and Education departments. We are seeking a responsible, curious student who will take advantage of this opportunity to expand their knowledge of the museum field and develop professional experience.

This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association).

Normal work hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday (some evenings and weekends will be required). Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually.

Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
  • Under the guidance of professional staff, the intern will obtain practical experience in an AAM accredited regional museum of history and culture
  • Expand knowledge of the museum field and develop professional experience
  • Assist with routine clerical/database operations
  • Assist with museum events and park-grounds activities

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
  • Ability to manage duties with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Curiosity about the history and culture of the Colorado Springs area
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Dependable and detail-oriented

Successful candidates will have
  • The CSPM Internship is available to current undergraduate students (juniors and seniors only) or graduate students majoring in history, anthropology, museum studies, art history, or a related field.

Additional Information

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
