As a Museum Technician, you will be working on a variety of projects to support the acquisition, cataloging, and protection of artifacts for the National Park Service.

Please note: This is a term position with an initial appointment not to exceed 13 months. The position may be extended without competition up to four years. In order to be qualified for this position, you must possess at least one of the following:

A. One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service, following established procedures to ensure objects of historical or cultural significance are protected from environmental hazards, such as extreme temperature/humidity, mold, damaging lighting conditions, or pests; cataloging or inventorying objects in museum collections; and cleaning or performing simple repairs (e.g. gluing fragments together, removing paint, etc.) to museum artifacts - OR -

B. One year of graduate level education in art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or another closely related field which demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position - OR -

C. A Bachelor's degree in art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or another closely related field which demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position - AND - meet one of the provisions for Superior Academic Achievement: (1) class standing (upper third standing in graduating class); (2) grade-point average (2.95 overall or over the last two years of bachelor's degree -or- 3.45 in your major field or over the last two years in your major); or (3) election to membership in a national scholastic honor society - OR -

D. A combination of specialized experience as described in A and graduate level education as described in B that, when combined, equals 100% of the total requirement

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
