WSP is currently initiating a search for a? Early Career/Staff Archaeologist ?for our? Louisville, KY ?office. The following location will be considered:? Lexington, KY, Jefferson City, MO and Kansas City, MO. ??Be involved in projects with our Heritage & Cultural Resources, Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.?
In addition to our many ongoing Phase I, II, and III projects, WSP has multiple upcoming cultural resources projects, from survey to mitigation, in Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, Illinois, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee, with additional work anticipated across the Midwest and Southeast.
WSP is seeking talented candidates to join our growing Cultural Resources Management Team. Our highly experienced staff is located across the United States and includes over 30 cultural resources professionals housed in Louisville, Kentucky; Lexington, Kentucky; Kansas City, Missouri; and Jefferson City, Missouri.
Your Impact
- Under general supervision, assist with collecting, identifying, and compiling artifacts, observational, spatial, and archaeological data from field sites for projects, investigations, and surveys. ?
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurement and documentation.
- Assist with performing basic professional archaeological work relating to cultural resources, assisting with verifying the characteristics of a site and providing entry-level technical assistance on various preservation and environmental issues.?
- Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, laboratory or statistical documentation, and logbooks.
- Utilize the latest archaeological methods, procedures, technologies, and techniques in performing studies and analysis of sites and potential impacts to resources of cultural and scientific significance.?
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, historic preservation, or a related field.
- 1 to 2 year of relevant post education experience.
- Analytical skills, and familiarity with research techniques, local/regional prehistoric and/or historic archaeology required.
- Familiar with relevant laws, regulations, preservation compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.?
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
- Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Basic proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, and assorted field applicable technologies and tools.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Approximately 40-50% travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
