The Department of Anthropology at Idaho State University seeks an exceptional colleague for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the sub-field of medical anthropology to support and grow critical programming in teaching and research. This 9-month tenure-track position will begin August 2025. Candidates will demonstrate collaborative research interests emphasizing the intersection between medical anthropology and Latinx/Latin American studies, complementing current department strengths and the health professions mission of Idaho State University. Successful applicants will have a strong background in cultural anthropology and ethnographic methods. Research foci may include, but is not limited to, public health, ethnomedicine, environmental health, mental health, violence and trauma, gender and sexuality, biotechnologies, globalization of disease, policy, among many.
Applicants should demonstrate original research specializing in medical anthropology or global health as evidenced in publications and grants, with the potential to attract significant external funding. Applicants should also demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in medical and cultural anthropology, student mentoring, community engagement, and a commitment to working with diverse populations, including Latinx and/or indigenous students.
The successful applicant will teach 6 courses (3 per semester) in medical and cultural anthropology, including introductory courses, upper division courses, and graduate courses that may be field based, service learning, online, or interdisciplinary. Faculty are expected to supervise undergraduate and graduate students, perform university and professional service, and conduct active research that involves students.

Salary will be between $60,000 - $70,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience. - PhD in Anthropology or related field at the time of appointment
- Demonstrates dynamic research specialization in medical anthropology or related emphasis
- Demonstrates accomplishment or clear potential for significant external funding
- Demonstrates innovative and engaging teaching
Preferred Qualifications
- Conducts active field research on current medical anthropology issues
- Research emphasis on the Latinx experience, Latin America, or related area of specialization
- Spanish language skills
