The University of Alabama Museums seeks a Director/Curator for its NAGPRA Program.
The Director and Curator, NAGPRA Program ensures compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) through consultations, repatriations, and other activities. Directs the respectful care and curation of the NAGPRA collection, i.e. all items and human remains subject to NAGPRA.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Anthropology, Archaeology, Museum Studies, Native American Studies, or related field and some experience in identifying, analyzing, organizing, and managing Native American artifacts, human remains, and associated funerary objects, to include some experience with NAGPRA collections and consultation; OR Masters degree and two (2) years of experience in identifying, analyzing, organizing, and managing Native American artifacts, human remains, and associated funerary objects, to include some experience with NAGPRA collections and consultation.

Must have valid U.S. drivers license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of NAGPRA law and procedures for compliance, consultation and project management, prior experience working with diverse groups of stakeholders (i.e. descendant communities, university faculty, staff, students, legal counsel, and government staff).
