AECOM is seeking a Geophysical Specialist/Archaeologist for our Burlington, NJ office. The Archaeologist III will need to have various skill sets including a knowledge of terrestrial geophysical survey and analysis methods, digital data collection, and archaeological survey and technical writing. Tasks will include working with Senior Geoarchaeologist and team on geophysical terrestrial surveys, archaeological monitoring, and/or overseeing Phase I and II archaeological surveys. Must be willing and have the ability to travel as well as good reporting skills.

The applicant must have experience with geophysical methods including GPR and gradiometry. Preference will be made to those with experience with other geophysical methods. You must have an understanding of how to conduct geophysical field survey, collect accurate data, and post-process in RADAN or other applicable software. As an archaeologist, you must have knowledge of basic field excavation techniques, the ability to identify Precontact and Historical artifacts, understand site and feature formation processes, be able to properly fill out and quality check field and laboratory forms, and be able to draw accurate profiles and plan views, and be able to direct others in these efforts.

The position is a combination of office and field work including extended period of times working outdoors, moving across the excavation site on foot on uneven ground, and performing manual excavation tasks such as shoveling and moving dirt filled wheelbarrows.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BA/BS + 4 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • BA or BS in Anthropology or a related field or a minimum of 1 year of experience in geophysical and archaeological fieldwork and analysis or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience; must have successfully completed an accredited archaeological field school.
  • Experience including the excavation of shovel test pits and test units for all phases of archaeological investigations.
  • Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.
  • Valid Driver's License and must be able to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MA in Anthropology or a related field and ideally 2+ years of experience in geophysical and archaeological fieldwork, supervision, and analysis or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience; must have successfully completed an accredited archaeological field school.
  • The candidate must be prepared for field and office tasks.
  • Technical skills including geophysical data collection, post-processing, and technical writing.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work well with others.
  • Field projects could be located anywhere in the US, and travel will be required. Valid Driver's License with a good driving record and flexibility to travel overnight and out of state for up to 3+ weeks at a time.

Offered rate of compensation (New Jersey) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $63,000 - $74,500.
