The Department of Anthropology at Indiana University Bloomington seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Biological Anthropology with a focus in Anthropological Genetics. This is a co-hire with the undergraduate interdisciplinary Human Biology Program; teaching will be equally split between the two units. We are particularly interested in a scholar with an active laboratory and/or field-based research program in Anthropological Genetics that is informed by evolutionary theory and that addresses questions of broad anthropological significance. We encourage applications from candidates who contribute to the Department, Program, and University's priorities for diversity, inclusion, and equity. Topical specializations are open, but priority will be given to candidates with research interests that complement foci in the Department, including human-environmental interactions, food and diet, health, and modern human variation. Candidates whose work considers the microbiome are especially encouraged to apply. The candidate is expected to complement and strengthen Anthropology's undergraduate and graduate curriculum, as well as collaborate with colleagues across Anthropology's subfields in research, teaching, and service. The candidate is expected to develop and maintain a research program that can be supported by external funding. The candidate should demonstrate ability and interest in innovative, undergraduate, interdisciplinary team-teaching in the Human Biology Program. The candidate should also be qualified to teach a large introductory class in biological anthropology and upper-level and graduate courses in their areas of expertise in the Department of Anthropology.

Basic Qualifications

Minimum educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Anthropology or closely related field and evidence of a developed research program focused on anthropological genetics.

The successful applicant is expected to have completed the Ph.D. by the start date of August 1, 2023.
