The Anthropology Department at Wesleyan University invites applications from scholars whose research and teaching focuses on Black/abolitionist anthropology for a two-year Provost Equity Fellow postdoctoral position beginning July 1, 2024. We are open to all geographic and topical areas of specialization, including those that attend to Black diasporas, anti-Black racism, Black feminist and/or queer studies, the afterlives of slavery, racial capitalism, and/or state violence. We are also open to scholars who take creative approaches to ethnographic genre and form, including mixed modalities of research and writing and/or other forms of representation. There may be multiple pathways for renewal upon completion of the fellowship.
The teaching load for the two-year appointment is 1/1. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to innovative undergraduate teaching and an ongoing program of research, and be ready to teach core courses in cultural anthropology as well as more specialized courses related to their research. Additional duties might include mentoring students and participating in departmental activities. Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college that values both scholarship and teaching very highly, has a strong, diverse undergraduate student body, and offers competitive salaries and benefits.

Applicants must have a PhD in anthropology by the time of appointment. We are particularly interested in recent PhDs and early-career professionals; a successful candidate may be hired as an Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment but will complete the Ph.D.in anthropology within one year of hire.
