This opportunity entails being responsible for performing routine technical work in both field and laboratory settings. Archaeologists will take a hands-on approach using established methodologies and procedures to collect and document archaeological data. Produces and interprets technical reports to greater project team.
What You'll Do:
- Works in both the field or laboratory/office settings depending on project needs. May be referred to as a Sr Field Technician or Sr Lab Technician to comport with any client-specific labor classification system.
- Performs assignments under the direction of high-level staff such as a Project Archaeologist, Field Director, Laboratory Director or Principal Investigator.
- Coordinates with senior staff to ensure projects are completed within schedule and budget constraints.
- Helps maintain archaeological collections and data files related to specific projects.
- May assist senior staff with research and technical report preparation in accordance with established guidelines.
- May lead the work of more junior staff either in a field or lab setting.
- Conducts archaeological investigations in accordance with applicable state/federal guidelines.
- Performs fieldwork in adverse environmental conditions (i.e., rugged terrain, inclement weather, remote locations).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field and 2 years of relevant experience, or
- Master's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field and 1 year of relevant experience.
What You'll Bring:
- Understands the field research design (i.e., pit placement) to excavate and record features to recognize stratigraphy.
- Recognizes stratification breaks.
- Documents findings and brings cultural materials and features to the attention from more experienced staff, knowing when to bring in lab or other field staff as appropriate.
- Provides guidance and decision making on what needs to be reported to more experienced staff.
- Records site information in detail using increased reporting methods (i.e., photographs) and increased levels of scrutiny when checking documentation to ensure the collected data is accurate.
- Develops a familiarity with various state and federal environmental compliance laws.
What We Prefer:
- 5 years of professional experience working for a private cultural resource consulting firm, non-profit, or government agency.

The approximate pay range for Washington is $54,855.61 - $94,625.92. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual's qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
