Our Cultural Resources Management practice, embedded under our Environmental Planning practice, performs a diverse array of cultural resources services for a wide spectrum of federal, state, and local agency clients, as well as private organizations. We provide archaeological and architectural history services that include California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) environmental compliance projects for a variety of clients including developers and local, state, and federal agencies.


Michael Baker International is seeking several on call archeologists to support projects throughout Southern California!

The primary function of the on-call archaeologists is to provide in-field support for archaeological monitoring, survey, testing, and data recovery excavation . Additional duties may include laboratory support (cleaning and processing artifacts) and limited report writing. Most work will be concentrated around our Southern California offices (Los Angeles, Ontario, and San Diego) or our Oakland office (including the greater Bay Area). Travel may be requested throughout California and Nevada.

  • Best candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology (or related field).
  • 2 + years of experience in Cultural Resources Management field archaeology.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws that apply to archaeology.
  • Excellent analytical skills and exceptional technical writing ability.
  • Capable of working in both an office and field environment.
  • Able to communicate through all contemporary business mediums (i.e., email, telephone, video conferencing)
  • Attention to detail, organization, and ability to follow instructions.
  • A valid California driver's license.
  • Ability to travel throughout California.
  • Ability to walk up to 5 miles per day.
  • Ability to lift and carry moderate loads (approximately 35 pounds)
  • Candidate can office out of any of our offices in California and / or from home , but most work will be in the field .


The hourly range for this position is $22-$30/hour.
