The Department of Anthropology at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position that will begin August 10, 2024. We seek an individual with expertise in linguistic anthropology and Native languages, and Algonquian competency is preferred.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate of Anthropology (Native Linguistics) will have an active research program centered on Indigenous communities and language revitalization in North America, and will join a four-field department with a longstanding commitment to Native Studies and historical anthropology.
The position is open to applicants working on language reconstruction and reclamation, and we intend for the successful applicant to work with us and our Virginia tribal partners in developing a program in language education and revitalization. The position is non-tenure eligible with a fixed 9-month term over two years. In addition to pursuing research in Native linguistics and working with our partners through the American Indian Resource Center, duties include teaching two courses per year for our vibrant Native Studies program.
