The Social and Behavioral Sciences concentration at Soka University of America (SUA) invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology beginning August 1st, 2024 and continuing until May 31st, 2025. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or ABD.
Qualifications:
As part of a five-course teaching load, candidates will be expected to teach the Qualitative Research Methods course as well as two or more of the following courses: Medical Anthropology, Race and Ethnicity, Indigenous Peoples of Latin America, Repression and Resistance in Central America, or Violence and Oppression in Latin America. Other topics in Cultural Anthropology in general and another regional focus will also be considered. In addition, the candidate will be expected to teach at least one of the following General Education courses: Introduction to the Pacific Basin or Core II: Enduring Questions of Humanity in the Contemporary Period. Course-load is 5 courses per year.
The candidate will also be expected to be available to mentor seniors in their Capstone (senior thesis) project.
The successful candidate will be expected to show excellence in teaching students from diverse backgrounds in small class sizes, contribute to service to the University and be productive in research. Candidates should demonstrate responsiveness toward and understanding of diverse student backgrounds, especially with regard to socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, culture, ability/disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity and have a willingness to facilitate the university’s mission to develop global citizens.

Benefits and Salary: Soka University of America offers an excellent benefits package for full-time faculty that includes medical, dental, vision, and retirement. The salary range for this position is $73,000 - $82,000 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
