UES is seeking a CEQA/NEPA Environmental Planner. The Environmental Planner serves as a project planner with a focus on analysis, documentation, and confirmation of CEQA and/or NEPA requirements. The Environmental Planner will work under the supervision of a Principal, or Project Manager, and receive direction from an assigned supervisor or manager at UES. The Environmental Planner will need strong analytical and writing skills to fulfill the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Protect Act (NEPA). The CEQA/NEPA Environmental Planner is a technical staff position initially under supervision, in a learner capacity.
Salary is negotiable based on experience, education, and certifications/licenses

- Salary: $65k - $85k annually

Job Duties:
- Conduct research.
- Write various sections of CEQA Initial Studies and EIRs (Aesthetics, Agriculture and Forestry, Air Quality, Biological Resources, Cultural Resources, Energy, Geology/Soils, Greenhouse Gas, Emissions, Hazards and Hazardous Materials, Hydrology/Water Quality, Land Use/Planning, Mineral Resources, Noise, Population/Housing, Public Services, Recreation, Transportation, Tribal Cultural Resources, Utilities/Service Systems, Wildfire, Mandatory Findings of Significance) while addressing community impacts from a given project.
- Provide technical analyses for a variety of topics and resources, and prepare analysis that is written accurately, thoroughly, clearly, grammatically correct and logical.
- Perform impact analysis.
- Prepare permit assessments and permit applications and CEQA/NEPA reports.
- Coordination or conducting field work including biological surveys, habitat assessment, vegetation mapping, air quality modelling, visual impact assessments, noise studies, Phase I ESA, Phase II ESA, wildfire impact studies, and state and federal waters delineations.
- Specialized site assessments.
- Manage permitting efforts.
- Assist Project Managers with task management and manage small sized projects and assignments given by Project Managers
- Identify environmental issues.
- Compiling and distributing information to specialists.
- Assist Project Managers in maintaining the project schedule.
- Perform outreach activities and participate in public workshops; make presentations to various community groups regarding environmental issues.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, UES clients, and the public using principles of good customer service.
- Participate in training programs in the environmental area.
Required Qualifications:
- General ecology or general principles behind planning for the conservation and preservation of natural resources.
- General principles and techniques of research and statistical analysis.
- Communication skills for purposes of data gathering.
- Demonstrated knowledge in federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to the management of natural resources and/or environmental planning in California.
- Techniques and methods of evaluation of environmental impacts.
- Knowledge of State, local and regional government organizations as they relate to environmental planning.
- Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, or Environmental Design and knowledge of environmental, urban, and regional planning.
- Solid grasp of the key impact assessment and management issues as well as a high degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of impact assessment best practices.
- Bachelor's degree in planning, geography, archaeology, anthropology, economics, political science, social sciences, civil or environmental engineering, geology, environmental science, environmental studies, biology, ecology, or a field related to UES's services is required; master's degree or higher is preferred.
- Willingness and ability to travel when needed or required.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
