The Peter O'Donnell Jr. School of Public Health (OSPH) at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UT Southwestern) in Dallas, Texas invites applications for tenure track faculty members at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor who have a commitment to outstanding research scholarship and graduate education and mentoring. The faculty member would be part of the newly established OSPH, endowed with the largest gift to a public school of public health in the United States. UT Southwestern provides a rich environment of collaborative opportunities for investigators on campus. There are also several affiliated health systems that employees can work with, including Parkland Health (the region's safety net hospital), Children's Health, Texas Behavioral Health Center at UT Southwestern, Texas Health Resources (a private non-profit community-based health system of 29 hospitals), the VA North Texas Health Care System, and Texas Scottish Rite for Children.

Qualified candidates should have a doctoral degree in public health, medicine, or disciplines related to the study of health in human populations (e.g. epidemiology, social work, psychology, mathematical modeling, medical anthropology, sociology, health economics and policy). Candidates with a record of extramural grant support, excellence in teaching, and innovative research are preferred.

The OSPH will provide unique academic and research opportunities within a culturally rich environment that has Dallas ranked No. 4 in diversity among U.S. cities. The 7.8 million people in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex reside in 13 counties across 9,000 square miles. The majority-minority population is 41 percent Hispanic and 25 percent African American. Close to 20 percent of our region's population are foreign born, speak Spanish only, and lack health insurance.

UT Southwestern's outstanding OSPH has a substantial research portfolio and emerging leadership in population health, which will serve as the foundation for building the new school. Faculty members are supported by both quantitative and qualitative methods cores and a full range of pre- and post-grant support services. OSPH's faculty are experts in diverse fields including health promotion, epidemiology, geography, sociology, law, economics, medical anthropology, data science, and implementation science. The school seeks to add to the diverse talents needed to produce actionable change in the systems, policies, health equity/health disparities, and individual outcomes that contribute to the health of populations on the local, regional, national and international level.

UT Southwestern is establishing a 21st-century school of public health cemented in its core research strengths and reinforced through integral collaboration with area institutions, health systems, and community organizations aligned with our mission, vision, values and goals. UT Southwestern has over 3,000 full-time faculty members who garner more than $635 million in annual grant funded research. The University is home to 19 members of the National Academy of Medicine, 26 members of the National Academy of Sciences and 6 Nobel laureates. The many centers of research excellence on campus include the Simmons Cancer Center (an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center), the O'Donnell Brain Institute, and an NIH-funded Clinical and Translational Science Award Program. The UT Southwestern Medical District spans 230 acres in Dallas. Through its own and affiliated health systems - Parkland Health & Hospital System, Children's Health, Texas Health Resources, and the VA North Texas Health Care System - UT Southwestern physicians are central to the care of millions of residents in North Texas.

Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full-time schedule. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
