Join the DeLeon Lab in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Florida for an exciting NSF-funded research project on the role of dentition in growth and development of the facial skeleton. Our collaborative team combines CT and histological imaging to study mechanisms of craniodental growth across a broad range of primates and other mammals. This postdoctoral position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of cranial and dental development.

As a postdoctoral associate in our research team, you will gain valuable experiences in the following areas:
  • CT acquisition and diceCT imaging techniques
  • 3D virtual reconstruction
  • Histology and immunohistochemistry methodologies
  • Morphometric and statistical analyses

  • Science communication

Our collaborative research group includes Dr. Valerie DeLeon at the University of Florida, Dr. Tim Smith at Slippery Rock University, and Dr. Kristen Prufrock at Washington University in St. Louis. The DeLeon Lab is centrally located on the University of Florida campus, providing access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources. Must have PhD in Anthropology, Biology, or related subject. This position will be initially awarded for one year, and, contingent upon strong performance and conduct and availability of funds, may be renewed for up to one additional year.

Expected Salary:

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in Anthropology, Biology, or a related field

Strong background in dental or cranial development research

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with one or more of the following qualifications will be given preference:
  • Previous research experience in cranial or dental development
  • Proficiency in geometric morphometrics and coding (e.g., R or Python)
  • Familiarity with CT acquisition and image post-processing software (e.g., 3dSlicer)
  • Evidence of science communication, including social media, blog posts, or public outreach
