Professor in Social Anthropology – AC1027SB

The Department of Social Anthropology within the School of Philosophical, Anthropological and Film Studies seeks to appoint a Professor in Social Anthropology. We seek a dynamic, leading scholar with an internationally recognised research profile, an enthusiasm for designing and delivering innovative teaching, engagement in impact activities beyond academia, and a readiness to participate substantially in the overall running of the Department. The successful candidate will be expected to have a range of interests both within Social Anthropology and reaching across to other disciplines, to be active in research publication that complements and extends the subject areas currently represented in the Department, and to be capable of teaching and supervising on the subject to undergraduate and postgraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Social Anthropology or a cognate discipline. Excellent communication skills, a keenness to promote knowledge exchange, and a demonstrated capacity for taking on leadership roles are essential. There must also be an established track record of publishing and grant capture, and ideally the potential for development of an impact case study for the current REF cycle or a future one. An evidenced commitment to collegiality and teamwork, whether in research projects, administrative roles, and/or supporting and mentoring early career colleagues, is essential.

Informal enquiries can be directed to Dr Melissa Demian, Head of Department (socanthhod@st-andrews.ac.uk) or Professor Christos Lynteris (cl12@st-andrews.ac.uk).
