AECOM is seeking a Mid-to - Senior Archaeologist for immediate full-time employment in our Cultural Resources group in Franklin, Tennessee. For the first six to twelve months, this position would be partially embedded position in the Cultural Resources Section of the Environmental Technical Studies Office at the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).

In the long term, the Mid-Senior Archaeologist will become a core member of the AECOM Cultural Resources Program in the Southeast, with responsibility for successfully executing projects and leading all aspects of project implementation. The Mid-Senior Archaeologist may serve as a Principal Investigator, based on work experience and education. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the growth of the team through the execution of quality deliverables for clients, as well as supporting business development, including participation/presentation at professional seminars and contributing to proposal preparation and/or interviews.

Responsibilities:
  • Managing projects or tasks with small- to large-scale field efforts (survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring) and intensive schedules
  • Managing and executing archival research, technical report writing, state and federal archaeological permitting, data collection and compilation, and/or GIS mapping
  • Operating as a primary author or senior reviewer, as appropriate.
  • Managing large-scale compliance monitoring projects requiring adherence to permit conditions
  • Supervising personnel in the field, office, and laboratory, as needed.
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework, including the National Environmental Policy Act, and National Historic Preservation Act, among others
  • Handling multiple tasks and communicating priorities to the manager.
  • Operating as the primary point of contact for clients and resource agencies on projects, as needed
  • Performing client management duties such as recurring status meetings, milestone check-ins, and day-to-day interfacing.

  • Flexibility and willingness to support multiple projects, including occasional travel
  • Innovation and problem-solving
  • Contributing to technical approaches and cost estimates for competitive proposals
  • Performing project management duties such as forecasting, tracking, accounting updates, invoicing, progress reports, and scheduling
  • Reviewing contracts for the understanding of scope, fee, schedule, deliverables, and all other contractual obligation

Qualifications

Minimum:
  • B.S. Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Experience implementing Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act
  • Meets the Secretary of Interior's professional qualification standards in Archaeology
  • Must be willing to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout the Southeast, and work within TDOT's headquarters office located in downtown Nashville for the first six to twelve months
  • A current valid driver's license with a safe driver's record

Preferred:
  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field preferred
  • Twelve (12) years of experience in historical and/or prehistoric archaeology and cultural resources management
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a supervisory capacity in the field or in the office
  • Relevant field experience in the Southeast
  • Experience with the career development of junior and mid-level archaeologists
  • Advanced knowledge in one or more specialty scientific areas (e.g., lithic or faunal analysis; osteology; historical archaeology)
  • Experience leading tribal consultation and familiarity with tribal representatives in the Southeast
  • Experience supervising large crews and/or multiple crews on various project types and sizes, regions, and agencies
  • Experience working with an interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts and planners
  • Proven ability to lead proposals and win work
  • Demonstration of excellent technical writing skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of regional and local cultural resources regulations

The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position typically is $75,000.00 to $125,000.00.
