The Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and the Department of Anthropology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles invite applications for the position of Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Anthropology in the area of sociocultural anthropology. Candidates should have a PhD in Anthropology and should demonstrate evidence of strong and innovative research and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring of undergraduates, graduate students, and post-docs. We are looking for a colleague to join at the advanced assistant professor level, with areas of focus that complement or expand the USC Department of Anthropology’s areas of expertise. We are especially interested in colleagues whose work contributes to multimodal anthropology, experimental ethnography and/or other forms of creative inquiry and ethnographic production. As a growing department, we are interested in candidates who are committed to taking an active role in the doctoral program, which is geared toward the preparation of innovative, creative, rigorous, broad-thinking scholars for the future in and beyond the academy, as well as candidates who may bridge to other departments and units on campus.
Interested candidates should submit: (a) a brief letter of application, (b) a combined statement of experience and interests in research, teaching and mentoring (2 pages max), (c) a statement outlining their track record promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (1 page max), (d) their curriculum vitae, and (e) the names of three referees. Letters from referees will be requested at a later stage of review and need not be submitted with the initial application.
