Job Description:
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Anthropology beginning Fall 2024. The faculty at Farmingdale State College has three workload components: teaching, research and scholarly activity, and service. The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory courses alongside other upper-division courses. We are especially interested in applicants who can teach and have research expertise in Indigenous Studies, Caribbean Cultures, and/or Medical Anthropology. We are especially interested in applicants who can teach and have research expertise in the archaeological or anthropological studies of Indigenous cultures, Caribbean Cultures, and/or Medical Anthropology. Scholars who show the ability to teach courses/conduct research with faculty and or students that bridge anthropology/archaeology with other disciplines at Farmingdale State College outside of the Sociology and Anthropology Department are preferred.
Faculty at FSC carry a 4-4 teaching load. Thus, the successful candidate must demonstrate an interest and a high level of competence in teaching. Candidates should also have a research agenda that complements their area of academic specialty and has the potential for peer-reviewed publications and presentations. An established record of scholarship is preferred. Service includes advising students as well as serving on departmental and college-wide committees. All three of these components are necessary for promotion and tenure at Farmingdale State College.

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ph.D in Anthropology
• Expertise in Indigenous Studies, Caribbean Cultures, and/or Medical Anthropology.
• Experience teaching anthropology at the undergraduate level.
• Research agenda with potential for external sponsorship and peer-reviewed publications, and active field or laboratory projects.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience working with undergraduate students on research projects.
• Established record of scholarship.
• Experience with using new technologies in anthropological research and teaching.

This is a 10-month UUP faculty position.
