Provost’s Distinguished Faculty Fellow and Assistant Professor of Race, Science, and Technology Position

The Department of Anthropology at Georgetown University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track opening at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is for a cultural anthropologist specializing in Race, Science, and Technology, beginning in the Fall Semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. The candidate must hold a PhD in Anthropology at the time of appointment.  Applicants from historically excluded groups are especially encouraged to apply.

While the geographic and topical foci are open, the successful candidate’s research will examine the contemporary and methodological connections between race, science, and technology. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses related to their research expertise and the core curriculum of the Department, as well as advise undergraduate anthropology students.

Successful candidates should be committed to academic excellence and diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching/mentoring, research, and/or service.  This commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion can be demonstrated in many ways, including those whose scholarship/teaching focuses on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and/or those who have demonstrated a commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion through their service activities.

For the first year of the position, the successful candidate will hold the title of Provost’s Distinguished Faculty Fellow. The Provost’s Distinguished Faculty Fellowship program is in its third year at Georgetown University.  This program is designed to bring in a cohort of new faculty from a wide range of backgrounds who demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Fellows will have completed their terminal degrees by the time of their appointment and are hired on the tenure-track at the assistant professor rank.  Fellows have no teaching or service responsibilities in their first year and will devote their full-time effort to building their research program. After the first year, Fellows will have a 2-2 teaching requirement. Fellows will be assigned senior faculty mentors by their home departments.

The start date for this position is August 1, 2024. Applications for this position must be made via Georgetown’s online application management system, Interfolio. Faxed, mailed, or emailed applications will not be accepted.
