Lawrence University of Wisconsin invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professorship in anthropological archaeology, beginning September 1, 2024. Lawrence University is a selective undergraduate liberal arts college and conservatory of music in Appleton, WI. Competitive candidates for this appointment will be committed to teaching excellence and undergraduate advising and should demonstrate evidence of an active and ongoing research agenda.
The Department of Anthropology at Lawrence seeks a broadly trained anthropological archaeologist to join a holistic anthropology program that values community engaged research and learning. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Anthropology or Archaeology by September 1, 2024. The successful candidate will teach a full-time load of six courses per year, two course per 10-week term, ranging from a yearly introduction to world prehistory, to methods courses in field archaeology and historic preservation, to other courses in their areas of expertise that will be of interest to a diverse group of undergraduate students. Additionally, the candidate will participate in Lawrence’s flagship First Year Studies program. The First Year Studies curriculum presents an interdisciplinary introduction to the liberal arts intended to support new students’ fundamental skills as readers, writers, and thinkers. In addition, the successful candidate will curate a large collection of archaeological and ethnographic materials and must be conversant in regulations pertaining to archaeological and ethnographic collections, including NAGPRA.
